Building Library Collections

At the Emerson School, we collected and organized over 4,000 books for use in classroom libraries and in a book room. Students borrowed books on a regular basis, enjoying new stories and adventures.
At the Mather Elementary, the Brookline Literacy Partnership has established, organized, and continues to further build a thriving library. In conjunction with Temple Ohabei Shalom, the Partnership has held two Library Organization Days where the students and Temple members worked together to catalogue the library. The Brookline Literacy Partnership has also provided substantial monetary support for much-needed literacy resources requested by the librarian, including shelving and books. We continue to help the Mather School improve their technological resources, both in the library and elsewhere.
The BLP partnered with The Timilty Middle School in Roxbury, where there previously was not a library, and donated 800-1,000 books to establish one. See pictures of the book drive process and outcome below:

In 2017 the BLP jumpstarted the library at High Street Veterans Public Housing with books gathered from book drives at Brookline High School and the Brookline elementary schools. Additionally, we financed the creation of a designated reading space where the students can read in comfort and peace. The BLP is continuously adding to their collection with more new and used books.
The Brookline Literacy Partnership is also trying to improve the classroom libraries and is always accepting new or gently used books as donations. We are also purchasing tools, such as leveled literacy reading carts, to standardize the teaching of English and reading across grade levels.
